The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced the launch of its groundbreaking “Catch Them Young” campaign, a strategic initiative aimed at tackling drug abuse and curbing the consumption of substandard products among secondary school students across Nigeria. This was made public through NAFDAC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, sparking widespread discussions on the significance of early intervention in the fight against drug-related issues and poor-quality products.

As part of its broader mission to safeguard the health of Nigerians, NAFDAC is focusing on young students who are often vulnerable to dangerous substances and unregulated products. By reaching out to schools nationwide, the agency seeks to educate and sensitize young people about the risks of drug abuse, while also empowering them to make informed decisions.
The “Catch Them Young” initiative, which targets students in their formative years, is designed to provide them with the necessary knowledge to identify harmful drugs and substandard goods. This campaign is not only preventative but also serves as an educational tool to promote a healthier, more responsible generation of Nigerians.
In a statement from NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency underscored its commitment to addressing the rising cases of drug abuse, particularly among the youth. “Our children are the future, and it is imperative that we arm them with the knowledge to resist these harmful influences. Through this initiative, we aim to create a drug-free environment in schools and nurture informed, responsible citizens,” she stated.
The campaign is expected to involve a series of workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions in secondary schools, where students will be educated on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of rejecting counterfeit products. NAFDAC will also work closely with educators, parents, and community leaders to ensure the campaign’s success.
By focusing on the youth, NAFDAC is not only addressing an immediate concern but also laying the foundation for long-term societal health and wellbeing. This proactive approach aims to mitigate the rising tide of drug abuse among young Nigerians, while fostering a culture of safety and quality awareness.
With the launch of the “Catch Them Young” campaign, NAFDAC reaffirms its dedication to safeguarding the health and future of the nation, ensuring that the fight against drug abuse and substandard products is won from the classroom.
