In a powerful message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, former Nigerian Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has expressed his outrage over what he describes as the senseless massacre of defenceless civilians in the Middle East. Fani-Kayode revealed that in the past 11 months, over 60,000 Palestinian civilians have been brutally killed by Israeli forces, while in recent days, more than 558 Lebanese civilians have also fallen victim to similar attacks.
In his post, Fani-Kayode decried the indifference of the global community, asking why the world stands idly by as these atrocities continue to unfold. He posed a thought-provoking question, one that challenges the double standards in international responses: “Do Arab and Muslim lives matter?”
He further questioned whether the global reaction would be different if the victims were predominantly Christian, suggesting that the world may not be as silent in the face of such horror if the victims were from other religious or ethnic backgrounds. “If those being slaughtered in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon were Christians, would the world have sat back and watched in silence?” he asked.
The former minister didn’t hold back in his critique of what he perceives as a failure of global leadership and morality. “Why the double standard? Are Arabs and Muslims not human beings too? Where is our humanity?”
Fani-Kayode’s comments reflect the growing frustration of many who feel that the international community has not done enough to address the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. His post has sparked a wave of reactions, with many echoing his sentiments, while others have criticized him for what they perceive as a one-sided view of a complex and deeply entrenched conflict.
As tensions continue to rise in the region, the cries for justice and equality become louder. But the question remains: will the world listen?
