Adamawa Police Command Commences Five-Day Training on Identification Parade Procedures

The Adamawa State Police Command, in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) program, has embarked on a transformative five-day training workshop to enhance its officers’ expertise in conducting identification parades. The training, which began today, September 23, 2024, is being held at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State.

This critical capacity-building exercise aims to empower police investigators from various divisions across the state with the skills necessary to conduct identification parades in accordance with international best practices. By refining these crucial investigative procedures, the Adamawa State Police Command is taking proactive steps to bolster the integrity and transparency of criminal investigations, thereby promoting justice and upholding the rule of law.

The training program, meticulously organized by RoLAC, is designed to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience. It covers key aspects such as witness and suspect management, ethical considerations, and procedural safeguards to prevent wrongful identifications. The initiative is a testament to the Command’s commitment to continuous professional development, ensuring that its personnel are well-equipped to handle the complexities of modern policing.

In his opening remarks, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police emphasized the significance of the training, noting that it will not only improve the efficiency of the investigative process but also foster greater public trust in the police force. He lauded the collaboration with RoLAC, highlighting it as a vital partnership in the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of law enforcement in the state.

As the training progresses, participants will engage in interactive sessions, simulations, and case studies designed to deepen their understanding of the identification parade process. The ultimate goal is to create a more accountable and transparent system that safeguards the rights of all individuals involved, thereby reinforcing the overall integrity of the criminal justice system in Adamawa State.
