NERC Takes Bold Step to Address Consumer Complaints on Transformers, Cables, and Poles

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to protecting electricity consumers by directly addressing a key issue many have faced with distribution companies (DisCos). Taking to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, NERC made a significant announcement aimed at curbing illegal practices where consumers are often coerced into purchasing transformers, cables, or poles—items that DisCos are responsible for providing.

NERC revealed that a dedicated email and hotline have been established to handle such cases swiftly and effectively. Consumers who encounter these unwarranted demands from their DisCo can now lodge their complaints by emailing idn@nerc.gov.ng or calling 07074865354.

Additionally, NERC has provided alternative avenues for addressing other electricity-related grievances. For all other complaints, consumers can utilize the NERC Call Centre by dialing 02013444331 or 09088999244, or by sending an email to complaints@nerc.gov.ng.

This proactive move by NERC reinforces its mission to uphold consumer rights and ensure transparency within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). By providing easy access to customer support and taking a firm stance against exploitative practices, NERC continues to strengthen its regulatory role and improve consumer confidence.

Consumers are encouraged to reach out through these channels and hold their DisCos accountable for delivering the services they are mandated to provide.
