In a powerful show of regional solidarity, the Adamawa State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has donated N50 million and six speedboats to support victims of the devastating floods in Borno State. The announcement was made via the government’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, reflecting a compassionate and proactive approach in response to the crisis.
Governor Fintiri, during a visit to Maiduguri, personally handed over the financial assistance and boats to Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State. He expressed deep sympathy for the communities affected by the flooding, highlighting the loss of lives, homes, and livelihoods. “Our hearts go out to the people of Borno. This disaster is a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive action, and we stand with you in this difficult time,” Fintiri said.
The Governor called on the federal government to expedite efforts in addressing the increasing incidence of floods in northern Nigeria, stressing that such disasters were becoming a frequent menace. “The federal authorities must prioritize this issue and work toward long-term solutions to safeguard lives and property,” he urged.
In a symbolic gesture of unity and hands-on governance, Governors Fintiri, Zulum, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State took a boat ride together to personally assess the damage. Their tour underscored the gravity of the situation and their shared commitment to alleviating the suffering of the displaced persons in the flood-ravaged communities.
Governor Fintiri was accompanied by prominent officials, including Secretary to the State Government, Awwal Tukur, and members of the Adamawa State Executive Council. The entourage’s presence further signified the state’s collective commitment to assisting their neighboring state in a time of crisis.
