Professor Ibrahim Garba Satatima, a renowned academic from the prestigious Bayero University Kano, has made a passionate appeal to Nigerian leaders to be more proactive and God-fearing in addressing the growing insecurity plaguing the nation. In an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Kaduna, the respected scholar emphasized the need for synergy among governors to tackle what he referred to as the “monster” of insecurity.

According to Professor Satatima, state governors bear a significant share of the responsibility for security challenges, as they are the chief security officers of their respective states. “In my understanding, wherever insecurity thrives, the governors must be held accountable because they are not only responsible for the finances but also for ensuring the safety of their citizens,” he remarked.

The professor used the platform to call upon the nation’s leaders, particularly the governors, to be God-fearing in their governance, stressing that genuine leadership rooted in the fear of God is crucial for overcoming the country’s security woes. He also highlighted the deep interdependence between farmers and herders as an example of how harmony can be achieved through mutual respect and understanding.

“Back in our days,” he reflected, “we understood the symbiotic relationship between farmers and herders. After harvest, herders would allow their cattle to graze on farmlands, which in turn produced manure for the next farming season. This interdependence created a sense of peace and cooperation between both groups.”

Professor Satatima further urged the Northern governors to establish regular forums where they could share ideas and strategies for enhancing security across the region. “I strongly believe that if our governors foster synergy and communication among themselves, they will be better equipped to address the security challenges facing their states,” he concluded.

In a time when insecurity is at an all-time high, Professor Satatima’s call for a united and God-fearing leadership serves as a reminder that the fight against insecurity requires collective action and moral responsibility.
