EFCC Nabs 44 Alleged Internet Fraudsters in Massive Kwara State Crackdown

In a bold crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 44 suspected internet fraudsters in Kwara State. The operation, executed by operatives from the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, was conducted across several locations in the state’s capital, including Sango, Kulende, Taxaco, and Harmony Estate.

Announcing the arrests via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the EFCC revealed that the suspects were rounded up on Friday, September 6, 2024, following credible intelligence linking them to internet-related crimes. The coordinated raids mark yet another victory in the Commission’s relentless pursuit to curb the menace of cyber fraud in Nigeria.

Among the items seized during the operation were six luxury cars of various brands, high-end laptops, smartphones, and even charms, often associated with ritualistic practices aimed at ensuring the success of fraudulent activities.

The EFCC reiterated that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court as soon as all necessary inquiries are completed. This latest success further cements the EFCC’s commitment to rooting out economic and financial crimes that undermine the nation’s integrity.

As cybercrime continues to evolve, the agency’s swift action underscores the importance of intelligence-driven operations and cross-agency collaboration in tackling internet fraud and safeguarding Nigeria’s digital economy.
