Outrage Erupts Over Bandit Blockade on Abuja-Kaduna Road as Criticism Mounts Against Government Spending

In a scathing social media outburst, Mahdi Shehu, a prominent X user, took to his account @shehu_mahdi to express his fury over the continued insecurity and deteriorating infrastructure on the Abuja-Kaduna road. His post, which quickly gained traction, highlighted the dire situation at the Jere Junction, where bandits have reportedly blocked the road, causing chaos and fear among travelers.

Shehu’s post didn’t hold back, as he laid the blame squarely at the feet of former President Muhammadu Buhari and other top government officials. He accused Buhari of a “deliberate and wicked refusal” to repair the vital road, despite an astronomical cost variation from N178 billion to N748 billion. Shehu’s condemnation extended to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his statement that the Federal Government does not have the N1.35 trillion needed to complete the Kaduna-Abuja road.

The enraged citizen contrasted the government’s claims of financial constraints with what he called reckless spending on other projects and luxuries. “They have money to give out N15 trillion for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar road. They have money to buy a new plane worth $150 million for Tinubu,” Shehu wrote, pointing out the glaring contradictions in the government’s spending priorities.

He further criticized the government’s allocation of N3.7 billion for bulletproof tires for presidential villa vehicles, N458 million for the First Lady’s international trips, and N400 billion for new cars for government officials. “They spend billions for their personal leisure,” he added, highlighting the stark disparity between the government’s expenditures on personal comforts and the dire needs of the common people.

Shehu’s post ended with a fervent curse on the government and its officials, invoking divine retribution. “May God destroy this government and all that it represents,” he declared, followed by a heartfelt prayer in Hausa, asking for God’s judgment on Buhari for betraying the trust of the people.

The post has sparked intense debate and frustration online, reflecting the growing discontent among Nigerians over perceived mismanagement, corruption, and the government’s failure to address pressing security and infrastructure issues. As the Abuja-Kaduna road remains a symbol of neglect, the voices of those like Mahdi Shehu continue to resonate, calling for accountability and justice.
