Troops Eliminate Notorious Boko Haram Commander, Arrest Criminal Suspects, and Recover Arms in Nationwide Operations

In a series of meticulously coordinated operations across Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has achieved significant victories against insurgency and criminal activities. According to reports on X social media from renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, troops have successfully neutralized a high-ranking Boko Haram commander and several other terrorist fighters, while also compelling numerous terrorists and their families to surrender under relentless military pressure.

On August 17, 2024, the Nigerian Army launched a daring offensive against a fortified terrorist enclave in Bula Daloye, located in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation culminated in a fierce firefight that saw the elimination of three terrorists, including the notorious and wanted Boko Haram commander, Abu Rijab. This victory not only decimated a key figure within the terrorist group but also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and several mobile phones—essential tools used by the terrorists in their nefarious activities.

In a significant turn of events, eight terrorists, along with their families, surrendered to the Nigerian troops in Gwoza Local Government Area, driven by the unyielding pressure of ongoing military operations. In a related operation, troops apprehended two suspects in Konduga Local Government Area, seizing 52 bags of illicit drugs that were intended for supply to terrorist factions—effectively crippling a crucial supply line.

In another bold operation, this time in Taraba State, troops acted on credible intelligence to arrest Alhaji Adamu Tanko, the chairman of the Gassol Local Government Area Hunters’ Association. Tanko was implicated in the illegal sale of an AK-47 rifle to a suspected terrorist. The weapon was originally recovered during a joint operation in Boki Lamba, a border town with Plateau State, further highlighting the depth of the investigation and the effectiveness of the military’s intelligence operations.

Troops deployed in Plateau State also responded swiftly to distress calls from the Rikkos area of Jos North Local Government Area. Their prompt action led to the arrest of two criminal suspects and the recovery of a fabricated rifle, alongside mobile phones containing disturbing images of various calibers of arms and ammunition—evidence that could lead to further breakthroughs in ongoing investigations.

The Chief of Army Staff has lauded the troops for their unwavering resilience and dedication to the mission. He also extended his gratitude to the Nigerian public, whose continued support and provision of credible information have been invaluable in the fight against terrorism and crime.

These operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and criminal activities across the nation, sending a clear message to those who threaten the peace and stability of Nigeria.
