The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has struck a significant blow against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, executing a series of devastating airstrikes that have decimated enemy ranks, including top leaders and critical equipment. The operation was carried out under the aegis of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the Southern Lake Chad Region (LCRBA), specifically targeting ISWAP strongholds in Marte Local Government Area (LGA).
Zagazola Makama, a renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, broke the news on his official social media X channel, revealing that the airstrikes were conducted between 1700 and 1800 hours on August 16, 2024.
According to Makama, intelligence sources confirmed that two Super Tucano aircraft were deployed in the mission, targeting enemy bases in the Tombun Baba Jedda and Arinna Soro areas. The precision strikes resulted in significant destruction, including the obliteration of several pieces of equipment and water vessels, and the elimination of numerous ISWAP fighters at Tombun Baba Jedda.
The operation also struck a crucial ISWAP medical dispensary at Arinna Soro, crippling the group’s logistical capabilities and immobilizing an unknown number of vehicles. The airstrikes reportedly claimed the lives of several top leaders and commanders, delivering a severe blow to the terrorist organization’s operational structure.
In the aftermath of these strikes, ISWAP has reportedly recalled its advance team of fighters, initially sent for rival attack missions at Filin A’Uzo and Dabar Wanzam. This decision indicates the heavy casualties suffered by ISWAP, particularly among its top commanders.
Sources suggest that ISWAP is now scrambling to cover up the full extent of its losses, fearing a potential offensive from the rival group Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS).
This successful operation highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s continued resolve and effectiveness in the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad region, further crippling ISWAP’s ability to wreak havoc in the region.
The NAF’s relentless pursuit of these terrorists serves as a stark reminder of Nigeria’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
