GIREI, NIGERIA — In a spirited call to action, Dr. Mahdi Abba, a distinguished lecturer from Modibbo Adama University, Yola, urged all levels of government to prioritize the revitalization of technical schools and entrepreneurship education in Nigeria. Dr. Abba made this impassioned appeal while serving as the Guest Lecturer at the recently held Speech and Prize Giving Day at Hairu Golden Science and Technical School, Girei.

Dr. Abba underscored the critical importance of technical education in addressing the alarming unemployment rates plaguing the nation. “Unemployment remains one of the most pressing challenges confronting our country,” he stated, adding that the solution lies in equipping students with the skills necessary for self-employment and self-reliance.

In her address, Fadimatu Mohammed, a lecturer from the College of Education, Yola, expressed concern over the growing trend of parents pushing their children to take common entrance exams as early as Primary Four and Five. She described this practice as detrimental to the students’ development and counterproductive for the nation. “Rushing children through their education undermines their academic foundation and does more harm than good,” she lamented.

The Chairman of the occasion, Malam Dahiru Ahijo, also shared his thoughts, expressing his delight at the establishment of Hairu Golden Science and Technical School in Girei. He emphasized that the school plays a pivotal role in imparting knowledge and nurturing the growth of young minds in the community.

Both the Director of the School, Alhaji Usman Mohammed Ba, and the PTA Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Ahmed Pele, extended their best wishes to the graduating students. They encouraged the graduands to be exemplary ambassadors of the school, wherever their paths may lead.

The event was marked by vibrant cultural performances, including traditional dances, and a spirited debate by the students, showcasing their talents and the holistic education provided by the school.
