Atiku Abubakar Warns Against Sabotage of Dangote Refinery: A Call for Vigilance in Safeguarding Nigeria’s Energy Future

In a recent statement, Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, expressed his concerns about the potential threats facing the Dangote Refinery, a pivotal project for Nigeria’s energy sector. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Atiku emphasized the importance of nurturing and protecting investments that hold the promise of national progress.

“Each parent eagerly awaiting the arrival of a child will dutifully undertake the necessary measures to ensure that the nurturing and development of this precious blessing remain a primary focus,” Atiku wrote, drawing a poignant parallel between the care required in raising a child and the attention needed for critical investments. “This fundamental principle applies equally to investments, whether they be local or international in nature.”

Atiku’s statement comes at a crucial time when the Dangote Refinery, a landmark private sector project, stands poised to significantly impact Nigeria’s energy landscape and forex earnings. The refinery, which has been hailed as a transformative endeavour, is expected to alleviate the country’s dependence on imported fuel and strengthen its economic sovereignty.

However, Atiku expressed caution over what he perceives as deliberate attempts to hinder the refinery’s progress. “I am cautious in considering any deliberate attempts to impede the progress of the Dangote Refinery,” he stated, underscoring the refinery’s strategic importance to the nation.

He further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding the project from both internal and external threats. “Alongside numerous fellow citizens of goodwill, I call upon all Nigerians to take resolute actions to provide reassurance that both internal and external forces are not collaborating to prevent us from reaping the benefits promised by this eagerly anticipated transformative endeavour,” Atiku concluded.

Atiku’s call to action serves as a reminder of the critical role that national unity and vigilance play in ensuring the success of projects that are vital to Nigeria’s future. As the Dangote Refinery nears completion, the former Vice President’s words resonate as a clarion call to protect and promote investments that can propel the nation toward self-reliance and sustainable development.
