Northern Leaders Urged to Reflect and Act: Senator Shehu Sani on Recent Uprising

Renowned human rights activist Senator Shehu Sani has called on northern leaders to take critical lessons from the recent violent uprising in the region, sparked by the nationwide EndBadGovernance protest. Through a powerful statement on his official social media X handle, Sani emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive and actionable plan to address the longstanding issues plaguing the North.

“The President must be held to account, but he is not the problem or the solution,” Sani asserted. “The governors, political figures, business leaders, religious and traditional leaders, and intellectuals of the region must converge and urgently develop an implementable master plan to tackle the decades of endemic poverty and destitution, illiteracy, chronic underdevelopment, abject neglect, religious extremism, and terrorism that have demonized the region and impoverished its people.”

Sani warned that while force might temporarily suppress unrest, it would not eradicate the underlying issues. “Guns and tanks can suppress the flame but not extinguish the fire. The monster in our homes was not created in a day. The North should look at the mirror and not the telescope. We have the cattle to build our wealth; we shouldn’t be looking for a scapegoat.”

His call to action is a poignant reminder that sustainable solutions require introspection, unity, and proactive leadership.
