the National Hunger protest inches further, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has justified the ongoing national protest to end bad governance and suffocating harsh economic facts describing the message and demands of the protests as apparently clear and and realistic.
The Northern governor has also attributed the bad state of the nation to “a deficient policy direction and the insensitivity of the national government to engage the citizens civilly”.
In a nationwide Radio and Television Broadcast in the state, the governor argued that it would be childish to deny the fact that Nigerians are suffering from excessive hunger and general poverty precipitated by harsh economic realities and misdirected policies to better the living conditions of Nigerians by the national government.
According to him, the widespread protest will remain a lesson and constant reminder of leadership flaws, emphasizing that it is not enough to tell grieving citizens that we have heard you instead of addressing their concerns as a responsible government.
Identifying with the frustrations and disappointments of the protesters, the governor said, “We can feel your pain; we can relate with what you are passing through; but we also assure you that as your leaders, the best payback you deserve from us is an advocacy and a leadership that can work round the clock to not only reverse the situation of your ugly realities but restore the collective hopes of your livelihood.
“Good governance is your right and that is what we have all sworn to give you. That is what is our trademark in Adamawa state.
“As a government, we don’t need a protest to remind us of this sacred responsibility”.
Fintiri who acknowledged the demands of the protesters are genuine described them as macroeconomic policies that can only be tackled by the national government, promising that President Bola Tinibu as a listening president will address the prevailing national concerns.
He said that the peaceful state and manner the protest was conducted in the state can be attributable to the trust and confidence the people have in his government owing to the towering achievements of his administration.
The number one citizen of the state commended the people of the state for such a show of solidarity, understanding, and confidence in the wake of the current national crisis.
He said that on his part, his government has demonstrated much responsibility and commitment to improving the living conditions of the people through well-articulated policies to stimulate development in all sectors.
