NECSOB Calls for Peace and Responsibility Amid Borno Protests

The Network of Civil Society Organizations in Borno State (NECSOB) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing protests in the state. While affirming the citizens’ right to peaceful demonstration, NECSOB emphasized the accompanying responsibility to respect the rights of others.

In a recent press statement, NECSOB’s Executive Director, Comrade Bulama Abiso, highlighted the alarming and unacceptable number of deaths reported since the protests began. The organization outlined several key points:

Call for Law-Abiding Behavior

NECSOB urges citizens to remain law-abiding and avoid causing mayhem. They encourage the public to identify and report any hoodlums exploiting the protests to the appropriate authorities. Additionally, they stress the importance of complying with the statewide curfew imposed by the authorities to restore law and order.

Appeal to Security Operatives

Security personnel are reminded to operate with decorum and adhere to legal standards. NECSOB cautions against the use of threats, intimidation, coercion, and excessive force, as these measures may exacerbate the situation.

Demand for Investigation

NECSOB calls on the authorities to investigate the destruction of properties and the incidents of rampant killings and shootings that have occurred since the protests commenced.

Call for Dialogue and Calm

Finally, NECSOB urges all stakeholders to engage in dialogue and promote calm to prevent further loss of lives and properties. They emphasize that the responsibility to protect and build the state lies with its citizens.

In a unified call for peace and cooperation, NECSOB’s statement concludes with a plea for the safety and stability of Borno State. The organization underscores the urgent need for collective efforts to ensure that the protests do not further endanger lives or properties, urging a return to dialogue and mutual respect to navigate these turbulent times.
