Nigerian Army Troops Neutralize Notorious Terrorist, Recover Arms in Taraba State

In a decisive and meticulously coordinated operation against banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), successfully neutralized a notorious terrorist and recovered an array of arms and ammunition. The announcement was made by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of the 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, through the Army’s official X media channel.

The operation, conducted on July 29, 2024, along the Gbeji-Afia road—a border community to Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State—was a strategic move by the Brigade to dismantle terrorist hideouts and ensure the safety and security of residents in Taraba State. The troops, while on a fighting patrol, encountered armed terrorists on motorcycles. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist, while others escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds.

Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle and magazine, seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two mobile phones, and assorted charms. The neutralized terrorist was identified as Odumegu, the second-in-command to Fullfire, the leader of a notorious terrorist gang operating around Taraba and Benue States. Odumegu had been on the wanted list of security agencies for an extended period.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the gallant troops for their unwavering dedication and commitment to duty. He reiterated the Brigade’s resolve to sustain the momentum until all terrorist enclaves are dismantled in Taraba State and beyond.

The Commander extended his gratitude to local communities for their support and cooperation, emphasizing that the fight against terrorism is a collective effort. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.

This operation marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to rid Taraba State and its environs of terrorist activities, showcasing the Nigerian Army’s relentless pursuit of peace and security for all citizens.
