In a historic move aimed at accelerating development across Nigeria’s geo-political zones, President Bola Tinubu has signed into law two pivotal bills: the North-West Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024, and the South-East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2023.
These landmark legislations mark a significant step towards addressing the unique challenges and fostering growth in the North-West and South-East regions of the country.
The North-West Development Commission is tasked with facilitating the reconstruction of roads, houses, and business premises devastated by multifaceted crises. This commission will also address poverty, literacy, ecological issues, and other environmental and developmental challenges plaguing the North-West states.
Similarly, the South-East Development Commission aims to rebuild and rehabilitate infrastructure, including roads and houses, and mitigate ecological problems and other related developmental issues within the South-East states.
President Tinubu’s endorsement of these bills underscores his administration’s commitment to equitable development, inclusive governance, and the provision of quality services to all Nigerians, regardless of their location. By enacting these laws, the President envisions a united Nigeria built on fairness, equity, and unity, striving to tightly weave the national fabric together.
These commissions are expected to be catalysts for transformative change, bringing much-needed reconstruction and development to regions that have long faced significant adversities. President Tinubu’s decisive action in signing these bills into law reflects his dedication to creating a balanced and prosperous Nigeria for all its citizens.
