The operations led to the apprehension of 10 suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and 33 rounds of ammunition.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola shared the update on his social media X handle, praising the professionalism and effectiveness of the troops involved. “The valiant troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in conjunction with other security agencies have successfully dismantled a criminal syndicate, apprehended 10 suspects, and recovered an AK-47 rifle and 33 rounds of ammunition in multiple operations,” he stated.

The meticulously planned operations took place in the early hours of July 22, 2024, in Galeri and Kwondo Villages of Ardo-Kola and Bali Local Government Areas, following a credible tip-off. The swift and coordinated response led to the arrest of two suspects, Ali Ibrahim aka Yellow and Wetti Alhaji Ibrahim. Recovered from the suspects were an AK-47 rifle and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspects confessed to working with a notorious terrorist leader, Kadogo Fun, who operates in Plateau State’s Bangalala and Kampani Zurak areas. Additionally, it was revealed that the kidnappers also act as mercenaries for other terroristgroups operating across Plateau, Adamawa, and Taraba States.

In another operation targeting incessant attacks and kidnappings in Southern Taraba State by terrorist groups disguised in military camouflage, the Brigade conducted weeks of covert intelligence-led operations. These efforts culminated in the apprehension of eight suspects: Emmanuel Michael aka Assay, Gabriel Samuel aka Badoo, Fidelis Lumu Utuna, Edward Ochan, John Orhenbaga, Desmond Agbo, Thomas Ikyar, and Shafiu Shaibu aka Odogwu. Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang leader was associated with Terwase Akwaza aka

Gana’s gang. Items recovered included 10 military camouflage uniforms, 60,000 Naira, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition found during a search of one of the suspect’s homes.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigations and possible prosecution.

The successful apprehension of these suspects and the recovery of firearms underscore the effectiveness of the collaboration between the Brigade and the general populace. The Brigade appeals to the good people of Taraba State to continue supporting security agencies in ensuring lasting peace and security. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, contributing to a safer and more secure Taraba State.
