Nigerian Military’s Daring Raid Liberates 7 Kidnapped Herders from Boko Haram Camp

In a strategic and high-stakes operation, the Nigerian Army has successfully liberated seven Fulani herders from a Boko Haram camp. The daring raid, executed by troops from the 25 Brigade Damboa with the support of local vigilantes, took place on Thursday in Kanama village of Damboa and Imimi village in the Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State.

The mission was marked by intense resistance from the insurgents, who engaged the troops in a fierce gun battle before retreating and abandoning their captives. In the course of the confrontation, one suspected terrorist was neutralized. The operation culminated in the destruction of the terrorist camp and the recovery of firearms, bicycles, and other valuables. The freed herders, who had been cruelly shackled, were promptly released by the triumphant troops.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama provided additional insights via his X handle, revealing that the operation on July 18, 2024, was driven by actionable intelligence regarding terrorist activities in the region.

“Team ‘A’ of the troops uncovered a significant Boko Haram camp at Imimi Bulabulin, overpowered the terrorists, and neutralized one while others fled. The camp was subsequently destroyed, and items recovered included 11 bicycles, 2 AK-47 magazines, and various other materials,” Makama reported.

Simultaneously, Team ‘B’ discovered seven abandoned kidnap victims in chains at the periphery of another insurgent camp in Kanama Village. The rescued individuals, all Fulani herdsmen, recounted harrowing tales of being robbed of their cattle and abducted from different locations. The troops escorted the freed captives out of the forest, ensuring their safety and return to their families.

This operation highlights the Nigerian military’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety of all citizens. The successful rescue not only weakens Boko Haram’s stronghold but also restores hope to affected communities.
