Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (CON) of Adamawa State has reiterated his commitment to promote and sustain the independence of the local governments for the purpose of accelerating grassroots development in the state.

Congratulating the newly elected officials of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Adamawa State in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Humashi Wonosikou, the governor said that his administration has demonstrated enough evidence to justify his favourable disposition to local government autonomy even prior to the supreme court ruling.
Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who congratulated the new leadership charged them to ensure transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He also advised them to maintain decorum and uphold the trust placed on them by the electorates.
The congratulatory message is coming on the heels of the swearing-in of the newly elected chairmen by the governor and the constitution of the ALGON executive on Monday.
The new Leadership has Suleiman Gangkuba of Toungo Local Government as Chairman, Danbiyu Paul Tumba of Michika Council as his deputy and Idris Yahaya of Song Local Government Council as the Secretary of the Association.
The statement further quoted the governor as saying that he had since five years ago before the Supreme Court verdict granted autonomy to the local governments in the state and urged the new officials to utilize this independence to build on what their predecessors have achieved to serve their communities effectively.
“As new executives of ALGON, you have a great task ahead of you, and I wish you success in your endeavors,” he said.
