In a decisive move against corruption, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has ordered Local Government Chairmen and Education Authority officials to return the N30,000 Sallah gifts diverted from state workers. This directive was revealed in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
Governor Aliyu expressed outrage over the misappropriation of the funds, meant to provide financial relief for workers during the festive season. “The money was intended to support our workers, and it is unacceptable that some unscrupulous staff diverted these funds,” Bawa stated.
He continued, “Those responsible for this unethical act must return the funds immediately or face severe consequences. Denying our workers the stipends meant to ease their financial burdens during Sallah is an affront to the values we uphold.”
Governor Aliyu emphasized his commitment to accountability, warning that stringent punitive measures would be taken against the culprits. “We will ensure that those who diverted the funds face justice, serving as a deterrent to others,” he declared.
This stern warning underscores the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and its unwavering dedication to protecting the welfare of state workers.
