Adamawa Local Council Election, PDP Reserves  Vice Chairmanship Tickets For Female Candidates

As the Adamawa State prepares for the LG Polls in July,  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reserved its Vice Chairmanship tickets for the party’s female candidates.

This was disclosed on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, the Adamawa State capital by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the leader of the party in the state. He equally shared on his official X handle formerly Twitter to make it far-reaching news in the state and beyond.

Governor Fintiri who presided over the meeting tasked the stakeholders to ensure the nomination of women as running mates where they failed to get the chairmanship ticket.

The governor, whose deputy is a woman – Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta – emphasised the party’s commitment to recognising and supporting the contributions of women.

He assured that his administration would give women opportunities to participate in politics.

He also called on candidates who may lose in the primary elections to accept the outcome gracefully and stressed the importance of free and fair elections within the party.

“We must recognise women and youths. They stood with us during the last elections and we’ll pay them back. After the primary, all the 21 vice chairmen would be women.

“But where a woman emerges as chairman, a man will be her vice chairman,” Governor Fintiri said.

The stakeholders also agreed to have one woman, one youth and one elderly person to constitute the party’s three-person delegate.

In the same vein, the State Chairman of PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu, stated that the meeting was convened to discuss the party’s preparations for the upcoming local government election.
