The recent gory and gruesome attacks by gunmen on some communities of Bokkos and parts of Barkin-Ladi LGA of Plateau State which left dozens of innocent people with their families killed, injured, and displaced, has questioned the veracity and the reliability of the Tinubu-led administration.
His recently reconstituted national security architecture was envisaged by many as a sign of readiness from his side to put in check the activities of the enemies of the nation. His strategic moves from the beginning to tackle the insecurity across the country were lauded by many well-meaning Nigerians, but the question is, has the nation’s security architecture reconstituted by Tinubu immediately after his swearing-in as the President and the Commander in Chief made any impact in protecting the lives and property of Nigerians?

There is no gainsaying that the mass killings of the Plateau State residents by the suspected terrorists and the revelation by the Governor of Plateau State that over 64 communities in the State have been taken over and have been inhabited permanently by terrorists for well over two years running is a confirmation that the immediate past administration of Buhari and the present led by President Tinubu and their cabinets turned the country’s security sector into a means to siphon public funds. the government of President Bola Tinubu had failed the country and its people over its inability to end incessant killings by non-state actors across the country. The unmitigated bloodshed rose to the crescendo while hardship and crippling economic realities have become the order of the day.
The present realities of the porous Nigerian security system have led Nigerians to lose confidence in the capability of the present administration. Tinubu and his cabinet are not helping in any aspect of its policies to give Nigerians a long-lasting respite from the persisting hardship and blood bath confronting the nation. Since the exit of Buhari, the hardship in the country has become more glaring and frustrating. Killers have freely and gleefully continued in their bloody campaign across the country without being confronted by the government securities attached to the areas where they choose to unleash deadly attacks on their victims.

It is now clear to all and sundry that Tinubu has allowed former president Buhari’s nonchalant attitude to the destruction of the lives and property of innocent Nigerians to subsist under his administration.

Since May 29, 2023, when the President took over the mantle of leadership, the fortunes of Nigerians have dwindled and life generally has become uncertain and hellish. The brazen failure of the authorities to protect the people of Nigeria is gradually becoming the ‘norm.’

President Bola Tinubu’s security measures in response to these attacks have proven to be empty and Tinubu seems to be only concerned about his political fortunes rather than citizens’ safety which is the primary and constitutional responsibility of any state. There’s a world of difference between his approach to the appointments of political SSAs and the current approach to curb insecurity in the country. Perhaps this administration needs to do something more dramatic and to move out of the shoes of its predecessor for the purpose of convincing Nigerians of the sincerity and seriousness of this government to change the tide of governance.
The nation seems to be under the seige of terrorists owing to the increasing genocide among citizens and the failure of government to protect its citizens from the cruelty of terrorists is an apparent sign of failure in governance by the present administration.
