The Police in Yola, the Adamawa State capital have apprehended one, Amina Hassan, a 20-year-old Housewife and Resident of Shuware ward in Mubi North Local Government Area of the State for allegedly setting her matrimonial home ablaze only six weeks into their marriage.
During interrogations by the Police in Yola, the suspect who admitted committing the crime attributed her action to re, refusal by her husband, Muhammad Auwal to divorce her as agreed before their marriage.
Amina who has shown some remorse for her action, explained that before the marriage, she had sought assistance from one Mallam to perform some rituals for the husband to cancel the wedding.
She said that after the Mallam collected the sum of N15,000.00 for the job and completed his task, the rituals turned against her, forcing him to relocate to Maiduguri.
According to her, after informing her mother of her lack of interest in the marriage, her mother insisted that the wedding must take place as planned since invitation cards had already been circulated.
Amina said to have further narrated that six weeks after the wedding, she had demanded for divorce which the husband vehemently resisted by giving her the beating of her life, a development she attributed to her action.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje told Alhazirah Nigeria that the Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola had ordered a full-blown investigation into the crime, emphasizing that upon completion of the investigations, the suspect will be arraigned in a law court.
