Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has said that Nigerians should rise against the oppression of the powerful who always like to oppress them even for law abiding conduct.
The convener of #RevolutionNow said this on Friday while reacting to a video where some personnel of the Nigerian Army forced some civilians to lie down on the ground along the road for allegedly blocking their way while they (the soldiers) were on their way to pick a personality.
In the video where Sowore intervened to find out what the problem was, the victims of the soldiers’ brutality numbering about six were seen lying down on ground on the order of the soldiers with one of them who already pulled off his clothes.

Speaking on the high rate of brutality always being unleashed on civilians by soldiers and other security forces in Nigeria, Sowore said it might be better if Nigerians decide to stand up for themselves to save their lives.
He said, “As I watch this video over and over again, it reminds of this insane country of Nigeria.
“How the powerful traps citizens with weapons purchased with their taxes. How citizens could easily be “wasted” for just engaging in regular law abiding conduct. How people become overpowered by overpaid buffoons and their goods, and then powerless, and how in circumstances like this, these citizens wish someone could at least stand up for them.
“As multitudes pass by watching, they themselves powerless or indifferent or just themselves too terrified or paralysed by fear! What if we could stand up for ourselves?”
