The Brigade Commander, 23rd armoured command, Brigadier General Mohammed Gambo has refuted reports that a female solider on duty shot her senior Military colleague, Lieutenant Bitrus Zira to death while she was on duty during the curfew imposed in Adamawa by Governor, Ahamdu Umuru Finitiri.
Making this known during a telephone conversation with our Correspondent in Yola, the Adamawa State capital,
General Mohammed Gambo argued that there was no such occurrence and sought to be left alone as he was busy with other official matters.
”Nothing like that happened, l am very busy now”, he said.
Pioneer also learned that the Military Boss in charge of the Brigade Command had responded contrarily when another Reporter from one of the Media organizations in the state engaged him in a conversation minutes later. His response was different as he was said to have confirmed that it was an “accidental discharge”.
When the Reporter probed further to know the identity of the victim through a telephone conversation, the Commander was quoted as saying, ” I am very busy, please get in touch with the Army PRO in Abuja”.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the female soldier whose name was given as Lance  Cpl. Nkiru had been harassing motorists while on essential duty around the AGs roundabout during the imposition of curfew in the state capital recently to simmer down the wave of crime and looting by hoodlums.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had imposed the curfew after hoodlums broke into government warehouses and looted several items, including palliatives meant to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy.
According to the witness account, the senior military officer was caught up in the fire when he attempted to intercede in the conflict between the female officer and the hostile civilians during traffic regulation.
Pioneer gathered that the conflict ensued when the female soldier denied some workers who claimed they were on essential duty passage at the checkpoint. Though the victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, for medical attention, he was confirmed dead and the female officer was whisked away by soldiers.
The female soldier was said to be noted for her uncompromised posture and hostilities against the civilian population during the curfew at the slightest provocation.
Some journalists left the military command disappointed when they were confronted with the reality that the Brigade Commander was not willing to be generous with the information of the unfortunate incident as he was said to have sent a message that journalists must seek appointment in writing before he could volunteer information.
