Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the constitution of a 14- Member Task Force to enforce a ban on mining activities and felling, processing, and sale of Rosewood commonly known as Madrid in the State to protect and preserve natural habitat.
A statement signed and issued to Journalists by the Chief press secretary, Yusuf Sanda indicated that
the Committee has Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd) as Chairman and Major Ishaq Soje Mafindi (Rtd) as Vice Chairman.
Other members include L/cpl Akpana Godwin, Private Ofoli Omini, Private Ofoli Eket of the Nigerian Army,
ASP Adamu Danya, Abdul Direba, Habu Ciroma of the Nigerian Police, Sp Haruna Yahaya and ASCI Bello Danjuma Yusuf of the NSCDC while DS Useni, AA, Girgir, and HN Vanaruwa of the DSS are also members.
The statement further called for support and cooperation from the public to the Taskforce in its assignment to “enforce the prohibition towards saving our fragile habitat from unregulated over-exploitation and destruction”.
