The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended 24-year-old Amos Christopher of Dobi village in Ga’anda District of Gombi local government, Adamawa State over the gruesome murder of his 4-year-old younger brother, Thyson Christopher.
Sources close to the family told Pioneer that after the suspect who is the eldest in the family had violently attacked his mother and other younger ones, he dragged his victim into one of the rooms and locked the door behind him as the mother and other siblings watched helplessly.
He was said to have beaten the four years old minor to death and dragged him outside the room before beheading him with a hoe under the watchful eyes of his family members without any resistance.
The same sources intimated that when the whole incident was going on the head of the family was not at home as he was said to have gone to the farm.
Father of the suspect and the deceased, Christopher Haruna who narrated how the incident happened, said the culprit is suffering from epilepsy.
“His health condition deteriorated a day before the fateful day the incident occurred with a complete change in his behavior. He slumped on the 18th of June 2023 and he was brought back home by neighbors.
“The following morning he violently attacked his mother and younger brothers who were at home with him. He grabbed the 4 years old boy and dragged him into a room and locked the door from the inside and beat the minor to death. All effort to rescue him by his mother was futile.
“He then carried the dead body outside and beheaded the victim with a hoe in his possession and as well broke the head into two.
“I wasn’t around, I was at the farm when the sad incident happened,” he explained.
The Spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje who confirmed the incident said the decapitated body has been deposited in a morgue.
According to him, the suspect may be suffering from a mental disorder as he claimed not committed any crime, insisting that his younger one is at home.
He said that his command is investigating the matter to determine the sanity of the suspect.
