The Adamawa State Government has described as frivolous accusations and speculations in the social media that the Governorship campaign team of the State All Progressives Congress was denied the Ribadu Square for the flag off of its campaign.
In a statement issued and signed by the Chief press secretary to the governor of the state, Humashi Wonosikou, the governor said that the evil campaign against his government was a deliberate act of mischief to smear the good reputation of the government known for for it’s liberal and accommodative posture to the opposition parties in the states.
“For the records, Government had graciously approved Mahmud Ribadu Square to the national campaign team of APC for its Presidential campaign rally in Yola on the 18th of January, 2023 which will have the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari in attendance. “Every Adamawa resident can attest to the fact that Ribadu Square is undergoing renovation and the contractors are billed to return to site on the 7th of January, 2023 to complete work before the APC Presidential campaign after the Christmas and New Year break in order to make the venue most befitting for Mr President who is a State visitor”, the statement indicated. The statement further argued that the same government in an apparent display of its liberal and friendly posture had already granted approval to the Social Democratic Party, the use of the same venue during its Presidential campaign rally sometime last year.
“It is not in our character to deny any Party the use of Mahmud Ribadu Square having allowed other Political Parties the use of the Square and wonders where such allegations are coming from.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the APC in applying for the use of the venue for their Governorship campaign flag off dated 27th December, 2022 which was a public holiday was received by the Adamawa State Urban Planning and Development Authority on the 28th and same was treated wherein a reply was dispatched on Friday 30th December intimating the applicants that the date suggested will not be available as the government of Adamawa State had already commenced renovation works preparatory for the Presidential campaign of the APC billed for the 18th of January, 2023 as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces will be in attendance.
“APC was therefore asked to pick another date after the 18th of January for its campaign flag off and instead the APC chose to sensationalize and trivialize the whole thing for sympathy shopping which is distasteful”, the government explained.
The statement further explained that it is customary for construction workers to proceed on Christmas and New Year break sometime around mid December and to resume first week of January, emphasizing that even within this period of break, the public facility was availabile for use by the good people of Adamawa State for activities with assurances not to temper with the the on-going renovation works.
The state government described as mischievious and cheap propaganda, the insinuation by some mischief makers whose deliberate intention is to portray the government in bad light and to abuse the liberality of the Fintiri administration.
According to the statement, the Government of Adamawa State under the leadership of the Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri “remains committed to providing equal opportunities to all Political Parties in Adamawa State as it is believed that every Candidate is passionate about the development of the State.”
