Middle aged man at Dabora village in Ganye local government Area of Adamawa state was reported to have been shot dead during a fierce encounter with the military when security operatives drafted to the area to stem the tide of violence and hostilities between two communities arising from the citing of the Headquarters of a newly created District within the locality.
The Military officer was said to have acted in self defence to save his life from the angry mob who pounced on him when the military personnel and his colleagues attempted to ward off the irate crowd during the conflict between the two communities.

An eye witness account who chose to speak on the condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the violent crisis started when the irate youths of Dabora village mounted a road block to stop the flow of traffic to the neighbouring village where the Headquarters of the new District was cited to show their disenchantment and displeasure.
According to the eye witness, the irate youths had also stopped the security delegation and convoy of the Gangwari Ganye who were on their way to Gurum – Nongvan to witness the election of the District Head of the newly created Serko District which was the basis for the protest.
Serko District was one of the three (3) Districts the Fintiri administration approved for creation within Ganye chiefdom with its Headquarters cited at Gurum-Nongvan. The expectations of the protesters was that the Headquarters of the new District will be cited at Dabora instead of the present location.
It could be recalled that several years back, they beat their king to stupor and send him packing, a Police officer also detailed to arrest a criminal at the same village was lynched by inhabitants of the village.
The security personnel in Ganye Local Government, confirmed the incident to our correspondent but declined further comment, saying that they are not eligible to speakt to the press.
Our correspondent reports that the situation has since been brought under control.
