The Taraba state government has budgeted a total of One hundred and seven two billion, seven hundred and and thirty four million, five hundred and thirty seven, four hundred and fifty nine Naira, forty kobo (N172,734,537,459.40) for the 2023 fiscal year.
According to the budget profile, the sum of N74,556,829,088.15 is budgeted for recurrent expenditure representing 43.16 percent of the total budget while the sum of N98,177,708,371.25 was allocated for the capital expenditure representing 56.84 percent.
The 2023 budget represents an increase of N22,949,641,062.58 (15.32 percent) over that of 2022 fiscal year.
Presenting the budget tagged, “budget of fulfilled rescue mission and transition” to the Taraba State House of Assembly, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku said that the budget performance of 2022 fiscal year achieve only sixty percent rating which fell short of the expected seventy five percent budget performance.
The governor said that his administration shall give more attention to the completion of on going projects that have direct bearing on the welfare of the citizens before the expiration of his tenure. Such projects he emphasized include, the dual carriage way between the NYSC permanent orientation camp to Jalingo city gate, school intervention programs, water supply schemes among others. He told the House of Assembly that the issues of security will continue to be given top priority in 2023 to ensure an equitable, peaceful and secured environment for the citizens of the state.
He further acknowledged the efforts and contributions of the media, the organized private sector, civil society organizations and development partners to the budget preparation process.
The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Prof Joseph Albasu Kunini commended the budget preparation process which gave room for citizens participation through the organization of a Town Hall meeting held at the Jolly Nyame stadium on November 10, 2022 to generate inputs for the 2023 Appropriation Bill.
He reminded his colleagues of the possible consequences of delayed passage of the Bill into law, assuring that the Assembly will ensure timely passage of the bill after the performance of its statutory legislative obligations for executive assent.
The Speaker during an interactive session with Jourbalists shortly after the Budget presentation, blamed the poor and unexpected performance of the 2022 Budget to the crippling effects of widespread flood and insecurity that plagued the state within the year.
