No fewer than fifty (50) members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) from Maiha local government of Adamawa State have cross carpeted to the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) in the state.
The defection which is coming on the heels of a massive declaration of support by youths of the Local Government for Senator Elisha Abbo second term bid may be attributable to the influence and political prospect of the senator in the area.
Among the defectors was the former Senior Special Adviser to the immediate Council Boss of Maiha LG and former Chairman of the party of the local government, Hon Abdulganiyu Nuhu Pakka to demonstrate their support and loyalty to the serving senator.
The leader of the decampees, Hon Nuhu Pakka who spoke on their behalf said they have resolved to dump their former due to poor Leadership style of the party and the unbearable behaviours of some candidates of the Party.
According to him, the NNPP in the state lacks sound administrative abilities and good judgement to unite party members, emphasizing that the candidates of the party lack the capacity to lead the party to electoral victory come 2023.
Receiving the decampees on behalf of Senator Abbo, Hon Abubakar Mai Yaki, lamented that Maiha Local Government as a border town with Cameroun Republic has lost its prominence and leading role in commerce due to what he described as bad leadership by the ruling party, PDP.
“When we come back to power in 2023 by His grace, we will ensure that Maiha returns to its past glory as the window of economic activities in the entire country by restoring the security and economy of our state in our first 100 days in office,” he said.
Also in his remark at the occasion, the chairman of the APC, Maiha Local Government, Hon. Isa Musa, who was represented by Alhaji Musa, a member of the legislative arm of the local government said, “We received over 50 NNPP members today into our great party the APC. The defectors are from Maiha Local Government Areas alone.”
He welcomed the new members and assured them of justice and fair play, an attribute he claims the party has been known for over the years.
He therefore urged the decampees to work harder and in harmony with other members of the party to ensure the electoral victory of the party in the forthcoming general election 2023.
