Party Primaries:Aggrieved Aspirants Seek Alternative Party Platforms. By Dolphin Max Stanley, Yola.

As the nation makes some substantial progress in its electoral process and journey to 2023 general elections with the conduct of primaries and emergence of Party flag bearers from the two major political parties, the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), some contestants who lost out in the recent primaries are cross carpeting to other minor political parties to secure nomination for the purpose of realizing their political ambitions.
Investigations by Aljazirah Nigeria revealed that though a handful of Aspirants who have no hope of securing the tickets of these major political parties because of the power of incumbency and stiff competition have moved to other political parties prior to the conduct of primaries, there are still lots more who are seeking for refuge in smaller parties accross the nation.
Here in Adamawa, with the eventual emergence of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as the flag bearer of the PDP and Aisha Binani as the flag bearer of the APC, aggrieved Aspirants are now swelling the ranks of the NNPP and the SDP in the state.
According to our correspondent, Alhaji M.C. Tahir, a one time federal legislator and Deputy Governor had to abandon the PDP for NNPP to seek political fortunes under his new political party with his cream of supporters.
In the same vein, the vocal Dr. Ardo had to switch off to the Social Democratic Party with his supporters to seek for nomination and platform to provide responsible leadership under the new party.
Dr. Ardo was quoted as saying that it is time to move away from the traditional parties that produce leadership to new alternative political platforms for responsible governance and that the electorates are apparently tired of recycling the same bad leaders.
A top party official from the Labour Party in the state who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said that few of the smaller parties in the state are deliberately delaying their primaries due to the anticipated fallouts from the primaries of the two major political parties in the state.
“Our hands are wide open to receive credible contestants for the party’s ticket to seek elective positions including governorship positions in the 2023 general elections.
“We have already commenced discussions with some of the Aspirants but we will not compromise the credibility and marketability of candidates.
“It’s the usual political culture but the truth is that most of those who grab the tickets in some of the so-called popular political parties are not the product of the popular wishes of the electorates. We therefore provide alternatives and opportunities to both contestants and electorates,” he argued.
Barely few days ago, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and Senator Aisha Binani emerged the flag bearers of the PDP and APC respectively during a free and fair Party primaries conducted in the state.
