Political thugs believed to be acting on the orders of the immediate past chairman of the transition committee of Hong Local Government of Adamawa State, Hon Adamu Bakore Sa’ad may have succeeded in lynching their victim, Alhaji Aminu Mude, the Director Personnel Management (DPM) of the local Council to death if it were not for the timely intervention of the police drafted to the scene to maintain peace and order.
The former LG Boss was reported to have stormed the Secretariat in company of his supporters barely two days after the inauguration of the newly elected Local Government Chairmen by the Adamawa State government to challenge the attempt by the DPM to reverse an earlier action carried out by his former principal which was in violation of service procedures and flagrant abuse of power.
Investigations by Aljazirah Nigeria revealed that the outgone Chairman had during his tenure confiscated the legitimate duties of a female administrative staff and arrogated it to one of his loyalists for reasons best known to him without recourse to official procedures, an action the DPM decided to correct after the exit of the former LG Boss.
Our correspondent learnt that the former chairman who accosted the serving DPM when he stormed his office alongside his supporters questioned why the DPM chose to reverse a decision taken during his tenure, resulting to an open assault of the DPM by one of the Aides of the former LG chairman and destruction of office materials.
The intervention of the Secretariat staff saved an ugly situation but an eyewitness told Aljazirah Nigeria that it took the staff sometime and energy to calm down the situation and to rearrange the office of the DPM after the damage and departure of the thugs.
According to the eyewitness account, shortly after the exited chairman had left the premises of the Secretariat, another group of thugs invaded the office of their victim and barricaded the entrance of the Secretariat, threatening to deal ruthlessly with the Director Personnel Management, emphasizing that this time the timely intervention of security operatives drafted to the scene by the Divisional Police Officer saved the situation.
Further findings by our correspondent revealed that the relationship between the DPM and his former Principal had gone sour over what many described as flagrant abuse of power and violation of official procedures in the handling of official matters by the former LG transition committee Chairman, a development believed to have pitched the DPM against his former Boss during attempts to advice on implications of negative administrative procedures.
Sources within the Council have alleged that some of the issues that have depeened the crises between the duo were, non remittance of Locally Generated Revenue into Local Government coffers, illegal printing of cash receipts, unexplained thirty thousand naira cut from salaries of former councillors in the month of February, denial of Council’s N500,000 Running cost, diversion of N8 million Herbicides, shoddy Land deals and engagement of subordinate in a fight even within Bank premises over disagreements to secure Overdrafts among others.
Speaking to Aljazirah Nigeria, the Director Personnel Management of Hong Local Government, Alhaji Aminu Mude said there was no justification for the assault since he was only performing his duty as an administrator.
He also admitted having it rough with his former principal before his exit over poor handling of official matters and administrative decisions that violated service procedures and conditions.
He therefore appealed to
appropriate authorities to arrest and prosecute all offenders in this matter to serve as a deterrent to others.
When his comment was sought on the matter, the former Chairman, Hon Adamu Bakore Sa’ad admitted approaching the DPM in his office over his uncomplementary and disrespectful comments on his person over the choice of another officer to handle the issuance of indigene letters.
According to him, he had to vacate the premises on the strength of the plea of some of the Local Government staff, arguing that he was not aware of any act of violence after his departure from the scene.
On his past face-off with the DPM and towering allegations against him, the former Chairman said that these were mere figments of immagination of the Accusers, describing some of the allegations as weighty which would require time and space to address.
“I don’t have anything to hide and I am willing to sit on a round table with relevant stakeholders to trash out these weighty allegations. These issues are too weighty to be discussed on phone; let’s not waste time over this matter,” he concluded.
The Divisional police officer of Hong Local Government, Daniel Micah Rabo declined comment and reffered our correspondent to the PPRO of the state Command. He further claimed total ignorance of the attack in spite of police intervention to save the situation.
“You shouldn’t be asking me these questions…what really happened at the Secretariat? I am not aware of any unrest at the local government Secretariat. You can ask the PPRO, ‘am sorry,” the Hong Divisional Police Officer argued to justify his claim of total ignorance and non involvement of the police in the wake of the perceived violence.
Local government authorities also told our correspondent that in spite of Police noticeable presence at the Secretariat, no single arrest was made.
