OPINION: How Recent Appointment Given To Fani-Kayode May Bring Him Back To Political Limelight

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, months ago amid mixed reactions from Nigerians based on his past comments about the party.Months after his defection, not much was heard about him in his new party. Just days ago, it made headlines that Fani-Kayode fondly called FFK has been given an appointment by the APC. A report by Vanguard revealed that he was appointed into a sub-committee of the APC ahead of the national convention of the party. To be specific, FFK was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of APC’s Media and Publicity sub-committee ahead of the nation convention. The committee is headed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State while FFK is the Deputy.Well, this is FFK’s first appointment since he joined the APC. This appointment will help to bring him back to limelight. Going by the calibre of people appointed to chair or deputize in the various committees, they are mainly Governors, Senators, Principal Officers of the National Assembly and Ministers. For FFK to make the list as a Deputy, it is an honour.Although, FFK was in government before as a Minister, what made him more popular in recent time was when he was made the head of the Media and Publicity of the campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

That was some years ago. Being in the media, speaking on behalf of the party and being in the news always helped to keep FFK in the political limelight then.This appointment is in recognition of what he did before.

This new appointment will also mean that FFK will have the opportunity to be in the news on behalf of APC. Sanwo-Olu who is the Chairman may be busy with official duties as Lagos Governor. This presents FFK another great opportunity to be in the limelight.The truth is that, if FFK does this job very well, it could pave way for him to land a higher appointment in the APC or at the federal level. The fact that he would be in the news can help to make his achievements within this period known. If he makes significant impacts in the committee, the party and other Nigerians will know.
