Former Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has inadvertently embarked on a political suicide mission for daring former Governors Bisi Akande, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and incumbent Governor, Chief Gboyega Oyetola.Aregbe, the Minister of Interior, thought that he had arrived politically and could thus bite and destroy the fingers that fed him when he was starving. Now, he has bitten more than he can chew and swallow. He has stepped on the ‘Lion’s political tail’. He will end up in the Lion’s political belly. Weep not for Aregbe. He will soon be crushed and buried politically. He has embarked on a journey to his political perdition, a journey of no return; if he does not quickly retrace his faltering steps. The bone of contention is the struggle for the control of the political levers of Osun State. And for insisting that Gov.Oyetola must continue with his uninspiring, lackluster, chaotic and very controversial legacies, which were generally believed in and outside Osun as legacies of failure and retrogression, Aregbe has shot himself in the foot. He will soon be consigned to the waste bin of political history in Osun State and beyond.Aregbesola’s political lifeline was the ministerial appointment given to him when he could not win his Senatorial election soon after leaving office as a two-term governor. By now, Aregbe would have been viewing national issues from the sideline.
A major and direct consequence of Rauf Aregbesola’s failed leadership in Osun for eight years was his inability to win his senatorial election in 2019, soon after leaving office. His disappointed people, out of anger, roundly rejected him at the polls.
By the time Gov. Gboyega Oyetola is re-elected for a second term in office, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola would have been buried, politically. But, there is still time to amend his evil ways to avoid the anticipated political catastrophe that will soon hit him and sweep him away into political Oblivion because Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not his ‘mate’. ‘Won ke re si number’ Jagaban Borgu.
