One of the reasons the People Democratic Party was removed from power in 2015 was because of its internal crises that it could not manage properly. That crisis really shook the party to its foundation. But, I think the party has learnt from its mistakes. This crisis saw a lot of big wings of the People Democratic Party (PDP) decamped to the rulung All Progressive Congress (APC).
The All Progressive Congress (APC) , had been in power for almost seven years now and one can see it gradually making the same mistake the People Democratic Party made in 2015. In almost all its Congresses, there is a parallel executive in almost all the states of the federation. The party has not been able to hold its Convention for about 2 years now. Finally, it has fixed its National Convention to be held on the 26th of February, this year. There are rumors all over the country that the National Convention may not hold due to the fact that all aggrieved parties have not been reconciled into the party.What will happen before the National Convention is that the caretaker committee will do its best to bring all members on board and if that does not work, the committee will go ahead with the convention. What will happen during the convention is that the aggrieved parties may walk out of the Convention or may be paid off to avoid issues. And after the convention, the following may happen;
1. There will be a permanent solution to the disunity in the party.
2. All aggrieved members will be given a post or the other.
3. Some of the aggrieved members may be paid off.
4. Some members of the party may join the opposition party.
5. The president will have to step in to calm the situation down.The APC needs to work on it internal democracy if it wants to stand any chance of winning next year.
