1 Mistake PDP Made In 2019 That Should Be Avoided In 2023

As Nigerians and political parties start making rudimentary preparations for the 2023 presidential election, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are reorganizing their programme to ensure that they put up a candidate who will win the election.

Political parties have been holding stakeholder meetings at the ward, local, state, and national levels to make sure everything is in order and to avoid any potential mishaps in 2023.

However, the PDP must remember that there were some aspects of the 2019 election that they did not get right, which they must address in the next election.

The PDP refused to work together during the 2019 presidential election after the primaries.

Remember that in 2019, the party enabled over ten candidates to test their popularity on the campaign trail. However, only a minority of those candidates affiliated with the Atiku/Obi ticket following the primaries.

When they needed to speak up, they kept their mouths shut, which didn’t help the party. Following the primary election, certain PDP governors failed to mobilize their respective states as required. This gave the ruling party an easy work in those states and the PDP got what they deserved.

Some governors felt they weren’t given enough freedom to champion the campaign as they saw fit, so they decided to delegate control to those who claimed to be experts in electioneering matters. So, if the PDP does not avoid making the same error by 2023, it would be too late. The APC will remain in power and will continue to rule the country. Regardless of who emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, the other members should back him. That’s the only way they will be able to put together a powerful force.
