Anambra Gubernatorial election coming up on Saturday, 6th Of November 2021 has shown to have an unpredictable outcome due to the several uncertainties that has surrounded it. Until recently when Nigeria security operatives took series of actions, there have been issues that seem to threaten the occurrence of the election which made it more difficult to predict the party and candidate that will take the day.
However, despite the fact that the outcome is unpredictable, the people democratic party and its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo seem to have a better chance than some of the candidates in the election.
Elections are not won based on the candidate alone, there are several factors that determine the possible victory of a party and candidate in an election and some of them seem to be in favour of the PDP.
To start with, PDP has its foundation rooted in the eastern part of Nigeria. The party used to be popular in the east before APC came into the picture. In Anambra for example, after APGA, PDP is next party that has influential politicians.
Talking on influential politicians, Peter Obi is one of those holding it down for PDP in the state. He was a former governor in the state and has a huge political family in Anambra. He has been able to maintain his political structure and sincerely, this will work for the advantage of the PDP in the election.
Since APGA is currently divided, the party has about three factions that are not ready to work together. Some have decamped to the APC while some have gone to the PDP. After APGA, PDP is the next party that has the numbers due to the popularity in the region therefore, as it is known that politics is a game of numbers, this may also work for the advantage of the PDP in the state.
Also, PDP held a mega rally two days ago to round off the campaign for the candidate of the party, Valentine Ozigbo. The rally gave a conviction that the party is united in that region. Apart from Peter Obi factor, Governor Obaseki, Seyi Makinde were represented at the mega rally. At the moment, PDP is the only party that has done something like that because the party is united.
With these points, PDP may end up getting the victory if election is free and fair.
