There is no gainsaying about the selfless leadership styles of Hon. Basi which has become a role model to many. Basi is a leader with vision who inspires people, mobilizes them for societal building and ensure unity, peaceful coexistence among them. In history, there are few outstanding leaders, true heroes of their time, who set the moral and political tones for their societies. Such people as American George Washington, British Winston Churchill, Indian Mahatma Gandhi, Charles De Gaulle of France, Lee Kwan Yew of Singapore and Nelson Mandela of South Africa, are leaders of repute. This is the category where Basi belongs to, due to his humbleness and altruistic nature. In our society today, it is when you do well, it is then you will become acceptable. Hon. Basi who is a bonafied son of Ganye chiefdom, has come a long way after he weathered a fatal storm and refused to play to the gallery. He rose from grass to grace by becoming the Honorable member of the Adamawa State house of assembly. Though, politically been a People’s Democratic Party PDP member, his doors are always open to everybody regardless of their political parties and religions. Those who don’t want to see how people always rally round Hon. Basi should at this instant in humility appreciate what he has become, he is not only an approved PDP leader from Ganye chiefdom, but a politically assigned leader of the State in general. One main way to lead is by example. When you turn yourself into an example, then you will turn into a leader to be followed, this is Mohammed Basi in a true perspective. A good leader must have strong convictions, not necessarily muscular charisma.
Pioneer team during their tour after the PDP stakeholders meeting from Toungo to Mayo-Belwa Local Government, were able to meet and interview different youths from different political parties especially about the political leadership of Ganye chiefdom since the chiefdom has, in terms of influential politician in the state and the country at large, are at the fore front. In our brief interviews of how the politicians in the chiefdom are relating with their people, many pronounced Hon. Basi as their role model, they tagged him as a humble and a peaceful loving leader that every politician from Ganye chiefdom and the State at large should emulate. They expressed him as the architect of modern politics in Ganye chiefdom and the State in general, who made history by welcoming every peace loving politician regardless of their political parties to work together for the development of the state. One of the youth among our interviewers whose name withheld maintained that, “Truth be told, men like Basi are made up of sterner stuff and are rare to come by in every generation. I doff my hat to him,” he declared, praying that they that are younger should truly be like him. He continues by saying that, “although he belongs to the opposition, but Basi benevolence activities and his achievements in live has transcend political divides, and he is not ashamed to publicly acknowledge them. True leadership is one value a price tag cannot be put on. Hon. Mohammed Basi has proved that only leaders with vision will inspire people to rally round him. Hon. Basi is indeed a deeply political master strategist who has astutely put up empire across the State and built a reputation for himself. He is brave at heart and large in vision, he has the fortitude to stand with those that are in need of him even when the times get tough and when doubt becomes as thick as fog. He forges ahead while others succumb to fear. He stands alone when others are tired and sit down. In supporting his political party PDP to grow from strength to strength, Basi is always a firebrand. He sacrifices to see the growth and unity of his party, people always rally round him because of his selflessness and were sure to taste of his wit, his incisive political jabs and his commanding vision about what PDP can always do to impact positively in the lives of the masses. There is no denying the fact that Hon. Basi rare political acumens with his altruistic leadership evince, his place in the political history of Ganye chiefdom and Adamawa State in general, is well etched.
